The Welfare Department provides services to the citizens in the fields of education, culture, sports and leisure.
Access to free Education for Pre-Primary children of low income families at Residence Malherbes (A).
INFRASTRUCTURE COMPRISES:
1. Football grounds: Sir Winston Churchill Stadium (Velodrome), Sir Harilall Vaghjee Stadium, Les Casernes, Robinson Football Ground, Malherbes Football Ground, Mangalkhan Football Ground, Atlee Football Ground, Lapeyrouse Football Ground, Wooton Football Ground, L’Oyseau Football Ground.
2. Petanque pitches: Tests de Buch, Square Bruce, Malherbes, Mangalkhan, Robinson, Joachim, Residence Atlée, Residence St Luc, Les Casernes, Wooton, Sadally, L’Oyseau, Lapeyrouse, La Brasserie, Engrais Martial, Allée Brillant, SSR Botanical Garden

Special events organised by the Welfare Department:
CELEBRATION OF RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS
Financial grants and logistic supports are given to socio-cultural groups and religious institutions for the celebration of festivals such as Maha Shivaratree, Cavadee, Ganesh Chaturthi, Spring Festival, Eid-ul-Fitr, Ugadi, Varusha Pirappu
– Cultural programmes are organised on the occasion of Spring Festival, Varusha Pirappu, Ugadi, Eid, Shivaji Day, Easter, Assumption, Christmas.
– Sports activities/competitions and cultural events are held throughout the year: Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Boxing, Petanque, Cycle Racing, Street Football.
ART EXHIBITIONS
The Art Gallery Malcolm de Chazal at Lake Point welcome artists of the island throughout the year.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. Senior Citizens Activities with collaboration of Federation of Senior Citizens (Theatre, outings, health screening, competition).
2. Women Activities: Gender awareness campaigns, pacific street manifestation, talks, seminars and conferences on gender issues, e-learning, adult education and community development.
