SSR Botanical Garden of Curepipe

The SSR Botanical Garden of Curepipe is the second arguable and the most important regional botanical garden maintaining a scientific collection of exotics and some of the rare and most endangered indigenous and endemic plants of Mauritius. Existing since 150 years back, it has always been the pride of the town of Curepipe . It is located on the western extremities of Curepipe around 2 kilometers from the town centre. It covers an area of about 27 acres.

 The main access point is through the Botanical Garden Street les Casernes. The next entrance is through Robinson street.

The main species of the garden are the planted camphor and the Rhododendrons. There is a collection of exotic fruit trees. The most striking specimen is the Hyophorbe amaricaulis unique in Mauritius .

The security of the garden is contracted out. Two security guards are on duty from 15hrs to 7hrs on week days, whole day and night on public holidays and weekends.

  Opening hours: 6hrs to 18hrs (winter-1st May to 30 September)

                                : 7hrs to 19hrs (summer- 1st October to 30 April)

Activities that are prohibited:

  1. Playing ball on the grass
  2. Picking of flowers, leaves and plants
  3. Exposing articles for sale
  4. Cooking food
  5. Driving schools
  6. Parking of vehicles on grass
  7. Horse riding
  8. Erecting tents
  9. Use of foul languages
  10. Access to heavy duty vehicles and buses
  11. Damaging of municipal structures

 TROU AUX CERFS

  The Trou aux cerfs is an extinct crater, located in Floreal about 2 km from the Town centre.  There are 3 main accesses to the Trou aux Cerfs namely La hausse de la Louviere road, Edgar Huges road and Crater lane. The ring road is of 1.2 km and access to vehicles is prohibited from 5hrs to 8hrs and 16hrs to 18hrs.

  The security at Trou aux Cerfs is contracted out. One security guard is on duty from 15hrs to 7hrs on week days, whole day and night on public holidays and weekends.

  The maintenance of Trou aux Cerfs is carried out by the municipal team comprising of 2 gardeners and 1 refuse collector.
